Jana Hicks:
JANA HICKS, a native of Texas, holds a BFA in dance from Southern Methodist University where she received the Meadows Outstanding Performer Award. While in Texas she danced with Dancers Unlimited Repertory Co., Citijazz, Meadows Repertory Dance, The Dallas Opera, and performed the works of choreographers such as Toni Beck, Eddie Burgess, Mathew Diamond, Judith Jamison, Bill T. Jones, Parker/Pucci, Ross Parks, Moses Pendleton of MOMIX, Bertram Ross, and Max Stone.
Following an invitation to apprentice with the Jose Limon Company, Jana moved to New York in 1990 and has since performed with a wide variety of companies and choreographers including Max Stone's E-Motion, David Storey Danceworks, Extended Dance Co., Sans Nemo Collective, Soundance Repertory, Verlezza Dance, Laurie DeVito & Dancers, Elyse Wright Dancers, American Dance Ensemble, Ariel Herrera's Fishmongers, Linda Nutter & Co., and Unconfined Movement among others. Jana was a member of The Kevin Wynn Collection from 1995 - 2005.
For 10 years, Jana was the Managing Director of Dance Space Center where she initiated the Foreign Student Visa Program among other programs. In collaboration with Max Stone she was Co-Director of NYDE from 1995 - 2001.
In NYC, Jana currently serves as faculty member at Dance New Amsterdam, Steps on Broadway, Peridance Capezio Center, The Joffrey Ballet School (Contemporary Jazz Program) and is Co-Artistic Director of The Next Stage Project (TNSP). In her capacity with The Next Stage Project, Jana conducts international repertory/choreography workshops which cumulate in self-produced concerts, and creates showcases presenting TNSP along with other contemporary artists and companies. Jana is also Company Manager for the Kevin Wynn Collection and for Johannes Wieland.
Jana’s choreography has been commissioned by New York and regional companies as well as by many international organizations. She has taught in the US and abroad including Canada, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Hawaii, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia among others
